If You Love Fishing You'll Love Destin

fishing_770If you're considering relocating to Destin then you're obviously a fan of the sea, seafood and perhaps fishing too. Obviously the climate, location and amenities in Destin are all great reasons to move here but the fishing is so good that we figured we'd give that a mention too.

One of the really neat things about fishing in Destin, Florida is that you don't necessarily need a boat because the pier and jetty fishing here is fantastic, for want of better words. There are dozens of different species living off the Emerald Coast and from April through to October you can look forward to some lively fishing from piers and jetties all over Destin. You can expect to catch whiting, Channel Bass, Trout, Bluefish, Flounder, Mackerel, Cobia, Bonito and Pompano from the piers here.

You do also have the option of fishing within the safe confines of Choctawhatchee Bay and the bayous around it - these are usually great fishing spots all year round. You can expect to catch the same type of fish as you would fishing from a Destin pier but the bayous can also offer up their tasty Blue Crab too.

For those of you who want an authentic sea fishing experience you can charter local fishing boats for a half-day, full day or even overnight if you're the tenacious type. The fishing fleets in Destin tend to focus on deep-sea bottom fishing so you can expect to bring up Amber jack, Trigger Fish, Cobia and Grouper to name just a few.

The only person who has ever come close to using mere words to explain the connection between man and the sea was Ernest Hemmingway and we think all fishermen reading this will know what he meant when he said, "But man is not made for defeat," he said. "A man can be destroyed but not defeated."
