Current Property Trends in Destin, Florida

586981_1_640For the longest time Destin, and property in the city, has been one of the best kept secrets in the real estate industry across the United States. Now the fact that Destin is often referred to as the "Luckiest Fishing Village in the World" or the "Playground of the Gulf Coast" eventually caught the attention of a mixture of people. The first of these were celebrities looking for homes that were that bit more off the beaten path, allowing them to avoid the paparazzi. Then the next wave of interest came from retirees who wanted to retire to Florida but didn't want to follow the herd of retirees heading for Miami or Sarasota for example.

Of course all of this interest has caused property prices in Destin to start rising because there's simply not very much space here to expand. Urban sprawl isn't something that can ever happen here - there just isn't enough room for hundreds of new homes to be built.

Now fortunately this increase in pricing is tiny compared to some of the more expensive cities in Florida. In 2012 the overall price per square foot for a property in Destin increased by just under 2%, roughly 1/10th of the property prices increases elsewhere in the country. The fact is that the property market is starting to recover but most of the biggest investors are staying very quiet about this because they want to scoop up the "bargains" in Destin before anyone figures out what they're doing.

With the median price for a home in Destin still only coming in at just over $210,000 this means there's a lot of scope for anyone interested in buying property in our beautiful city.

If you want to discuss what options are available to you the team here at Karrie Rose would be more than happy to discuss this with you.
