Dogs have always been an integral part of our society, both hunting with us during the day and protecting us while we slept at night. For many people their dogs are now an important part of their family and the availability of dog friendly amenities, such as parks, is often a deciding factor on the city they intend relocating to. Although the beaches in Destin don't allow dogs on them we do offer our canine visitors and residents a dog friendly park which is located just east of Northwest Florida Regional Airport.
The park itself is 1.5 acres in size, so you have plenty of room, and is fenced in so your doggy friends can enjoy some off-leash activity. Smaller dogs can enjoy some fun in their own separate area while their bigger friends go rough-housing around the more open spaces. To make sure that your dogs don't get dehydrated during our hot Florida summer weather the park designers have even included a water fountain for your dogs to take a drink from. Having only opened in 2012 the park is still in its early days and new features are being added all the time, with hopefully even more space being allocated to the fenced dog area in the near future.
From a pet owners point of view you won't have to worry about trying to find some place to let your dog off their leash to get some exercise and have some fun with other dogs, we know just how big a part of any family a dog is. Please note that if you have a smaller dog you should do your best to keep them in the small dog areas with animals of their own size - the larger dogs in the "free" part of the park could be that little bit too rough for them.
So if you were worried that Destin didn't have a dog-friendly park you can put that worry to one side. Plus you now have yet another reason for you, your family and your dogs to relocate here.
